Do E46 M3 side view mirrors fit the E39?

I've read that the standard E46 mirrors can fit the E39...But was wondering if the E46 M3 mirrors would fit the E39? I wanted to put some E39 M5 mirrors on my 540i, but they seem to be quite a bit more expensive than E46 M3 mirrors, so just seeing if I can save some dough.

Nope and Nope.

While the Non-M housings, case, and glass are the same. The bases are not and therefore cannot be mounted.

The M5 mirrors sold on eBay work great. The body is aluminum and gearing appears to be stronger then oem ones.
The Taiwan ones are best. Mine are from 2014 and have worked fine. Around $300. now. You will need the M5 mirror driver door switch and the relay/sensor whatever its called to get them to fold up.
