Hello!
I was looking for a disa repair kit to bullet proof my unit, and i found 2 types X8R that cost 90$! and a Chinese one for 17$ on ebay... here is a link:

Are they any good? They are made by aluminum and seems similar to the 90+$ ones.
Looks suspiciously like the kit DR VANOS sells for $80
If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue
yeah, but is it the same quality? I sent a message to the seller to know what type of aluminum he is using but still no respond
Seller won't have a good answer for that, nor will those selling it at 4x this price. I don't think the particular alloy is important.
Curious to know how you go and how it works out.

If the DISA valve pin falls out, the engine goes Ka-boom. Why cut corners on this item?
Not really, the way the updated pin sit it can't physically fall inside the engine, it's too long to be affected by vibration and got a thick tip to secure it in place. The scary part is to see the flap start to crack and send shrapnel's inside the engine because of a very. poor aluminum allow.
Suit yourself. My philosophy is to use OEM or Genuine on critical parts unless I find evidence that the quality has degraded (radiators are a good example here). I consider the DISA valve to be a critical part.
My disa valve is OE, what u see is an upgrade that replaced the weak point of the OEM/OE part, aka the pin that hold the flap, BMW put a small pin that tend to get loose with vibration and eventually fall into the engine. Is a nice upgrade to improve the m54/m52 reliability
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I guess. I've been very happy with my DISA after rebuilding with the kit from German Auto Solutions, and this seems like a shameless knockoff. I've seen this kind of thing happen time and time again with small cottage industry type aftermarket parts - inevitably the design gets ripped off and copycats emerge on eBay. It'll make the rounds on forums and Facebook groups and plenty of people will snatch them up. But for me, I'll pay a bit more for the OG product and the folks who put in the R&D in the first place. The warm fuzzies from supporting them are nice but the peace of mind knowing it's a well built kit is invaluable.

Don't do the cheapo Ebay thing.
The problem with the cheap Chinese stuff is that people don't report back on them when they fail (because they feel it is their own fault for buying it).
Whereas for a name brand (like the DR VANOS kit) people will shout it out to everyone who will listen.

I’ve used the Dr Vanos kit, never had any issues since.

Just received the kit and here is my opinion: the material quality look fine, after hammering it, no visual bend or crack visible, so I guess the alloy is good. Installation was smooth no fitement issue, but the kit come with some useless hardwares, and doesn't come with a red lock grease. Still need to see how its going to hold out under stress and heat, gonna keep inform u after some months. But right now for the price, it's defently a recommendation.
