parts for repair to an assembly database ?

A number of common repair parts are sold only as assemblies. When your failure involves only a small portion but you are forced to buy the assembly its no fun.
The recent thread regarding un-cataloged O-rings for the clip on hoses gives me this idea.
I'm not qualified or willing to compile but it would be nice to have. I could contribute.

My thoughts were to just compile a list, categorized, of un-cataloged items that can save an assembly. The radiator hose O-rings for example as mentioned by Toby B.
I know some here have repaired alternators and sourced the various components. Gearbox parts seem difficult to specify and source so that information could be super helpful to some.
After years of replacing the entire mechanical tensioners on M52s I finally did some hard digging and discovered the appropriate pulley (Dayco 89133)to repair a tensioner with failed pulley bearing. A few bucks and one screw installation instead of replacing the entire assembly.
I think a bunch of us have probably figured out stuff like this.
Oh, the first person to call this "hacks" gets a swift kick in the nuts!
