Can someone tell me the difference between gm3 high and low? I have a 2002 530 that I’m having problems with which I think may be related to the gm. I pulled the old one and it is a high version, but there was a thread somewhere that said the high version was only for servotronic option vehicles and it goes on to say that only the 8 cylinders got servotronic. Can anyone confirm this and tell me the difference?

I think its correct that all cars with servotronic has the high GM, not sure if there are other differences tho.
It is not the case that only 8cyl cars has servotronic, i dont know about the US but in Europe you can have servotronic on 4 and 6cyl also.

are you specifically talking about e39? because there is no 4 cyl option on e39.

Actually there is the 520d, a turbo 4-cylinder diesel.
