    Suitable headliner replacement material

I have the glorious tan interior. The best color to ever come from Bavaria. (Yeah right)

Anyways, my c pillars look like a racoon got loose in the back of my car, and the sunroof cover is looking a little rough. Accompanied by the various black marks and such I am looking for what color is the closest I can get, I'll be redoing the headliner, rear deck, the alphabet pillars, and the sunroof cover.

I want something foam backed because it feels cool and won't let glue bleed through as easy if I get trigger happy. I also don't want it to fade in 6 months and be relatively close to the factory color.

I'm sure it's been discussed but everything I find is from 10 years ago and the aforementioned fabric is no longer available. I searched trust me.

Also how much of a pita will this be.

As you mentioned, this topic has been discussed ad nauseum. After all that, people still find it necessary to make this complicated. It's very simple:

    • All aftermarket fabric is the same (lower quality than OEM).
    • Therefore, no need to jump thru hoops by ordering fabric from exotic, faraway vendors (unless you want goat hair ghetto fabulous).

You asked how much of a PITA this is: Much. Give it to an upholsterer.

    Too many...
Been using Keyston Bros fabrics on my projects for years. They have a distribution center in North Raleigh but I think you need a business account with them to buy there. Not sure if it is close at all for you but I’ve used Gresham Lake Auto Upholstery in (very) North Raleigh to both do work and also sell me material by the yard. They sell the Keyston Bros line among others.

I do foam-backed on the headliner and non-foam everywhere else same as the factory. The headliner panel itself continues to be above my skill set so I happily pay to have it done. You can save some labor cost by stripping the old fabric and as much of the old foam as possible (plastic razor blades ftw). Save the old headliner fabric and give it to the trimmer for a guide.
