Hello everyone, sorry if I will be a pain in the ass but I'm new on this forum.
I was looking for a standalone ABS system to swap on some street car or restomod cars and I read a lot about the MK60 kit from E46 M3.
Well, my question is: does the MK60 ABS pump from a NON M3 vehicle can be used as standalone system or I have necessarily use an M3? From what I understand the only difference is the internal programmed software that make the M3 better for sports\race cars, is that right?
I don't need performance, just a safer car for daily drive and then non M3 ABS system is cheaper and easier to find for my projects.
Thansk in advance to everyone for the answers.
Cheers
Pier
You can always buy my e36 m3 ABS system at a greatly reduced cost and wire it standalone. Only need relays, power, brake booster sensor and wheel speeds.
Not sure if you are looking for a decent street setup or wanting the added complexity of mk60 for track use.
Me and friends have postulated this quite a bit. We think (helped with beer and bourbon) that a MK60 off of any other car would work damn well. I'd match wheel drive to wheel drive (Mk60 off a FWD car if putting on a FWD car, etc). One of those friends has said he's going to do it, because if it doesn't work, it's then trivial to pop in a E46 M3 ABS computer. Non E46 M3 ABS pumps/controllers are under $100.
I also told him if he bought the $75 MK60, I'd pop the controller on my car and report back.
I've heard of people skipping MK60 and going to the system in the E92M.
I haven't followed up though but the rationale is that it's a newer generation.
