We are doing a US S50B30 and 5 speed ZF conversion into a 1984 E30 318i and have a rebuilt E36 tail-shaft that has a new late model E30 center bearing. So, can the series 2 tail-shaft be adapted into a series 1? Looks like it just needs the old mount cut and relocated. Any other way, apart from new bearing into the tail-shaft.
sorry, whats a series 1/2? AFAIK, your going to need the front portion of the driveshaft from an M3/328I E36 in conjunction with any E36 Rear driveshaft half.
There are two variants of E30. The series 1 has chrome bumpers and the series 2 has plastic bumpers. They have different center bearings. I've got the M3 tailshaft which has been fitted with a late model E30 center bearing but it doesn't fit the early body.
Sadly it seems the knowledgeable folk who may know about E30s seem to be leaving forums like this in droves, for facebook.
no one on the correct side drive of the world uses that lingo oz. also you guys got piles and piles more of the early m10 4cyls than we got. they went to selling e's super quick here. no one in north america could live with an m10 after the e21 era.
short answer is the 328i driveshaft, pretty sure you'll be moving the center bearing mount on an m10 car though. i'm sure there are other solutions. try e30.net, it's uk based so a bit closer to your app. R3V is still going and will definitely have answers in there, but you'll have to use the search.
sounds like it's going to be a fun car.
