Hello,I am new to this forum and this is my first post.
I am trying to find compatible coils for our 2006 BMW 330xi, but I have been unsuccessful.
The current coils I have do not fit correctly because they are missing a slip on the left side of the power cables attachment.
I have attached a picture showing my current Bosch coils (notice the left slip).
I have tried searching for compatible coils on Amazon and AutoZone, but have been unable to find any. The only visible numbers on my current coils are *594936*, but I cannot find any part number containing this part number.
Is there a compatible coil I can purchase? Or do I need to take it to a BMW dealership to have it done? If possible, I would like to do it myself
.
(PS: I tried the following coils, but without the slip, it won't fit:
Bosch Automotive 0221504800 OEM
Delphi GN10328)

Hi and welcome to Bimmerforums!
If you wish to display images in your forum message, you have a couple of options to do so from the desktop.
While you are putting together your forum message or editing it, click on the INSERT IMAGE icon and select either FROM COMPUTER or FROM URL. 'From Computer' may not be an option for members with new accounts or low message count.
If you opt for the FROM URL, consider using DropBox.Com, Free Image Hosting(.net) to host your photos. Avoid using Photo Bucket or ImgUr as both have been known to difficult to link to forums.
If you want to use Google Photos, go to google.photos, locate the image(s), use the SHARE icon and CREATE A LINK. Copy and paste the link(s) into your message body. The same copy/paste of the link works for any image hosting site.
There are many options. I hope that helps!

Please post either the build date (month/year) or better yet, the last seven digits of your VIN.
You will note that in this linked page from an excellent parts supplier, there is reference to "before 4/06, or after 4/06".

I would like to emphasize that you shouldn't buy your BMW parts from Amazon or Autozoo; buy them from a BMW specialist supplier like FCP Euro, RM European, etc....OR, better yet, an online dealer like bmwpartsnow.com , who will use your VIN to make sure you get the right parts.
I'm guessing that what you mean by "a slip" is the little plastic alignment tab at the bottom of the electrical connector?

Hi and thanks for your replies, and suggestions. I'll definitely check those suggested websites.
The last 7 digits of the VIN is *KV62039
As you can see, the original coils have a 'slip' (plastic opening) that only installs coils with the same 'slip'.
('slip': sorry, I don't know the technical term, this is how the Autozone representative called it.)

This is the orginal coil part number, partially visible.

(When I preview this message, it won't show me the images within the HTML code, so I posted the direct links to the Dropbox images)
The coils that I tried don't have the 'slip' won't fit the power connector.
I already purchased and returned 2 set of 6 coils, and I would like to find a compatible one.
Allow me please, to teach you how to fish, BMW style:
Go to realoem.com
Enter the last 7 of your VIN
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select?vin=KV62039
(I see you have an E90- I was visualizing an E46)
Click "browse parts", then "engine electrical system", go to the picture with coils, and note the 11 digit part number 12138616153
(If you click on that part number, you'll find the cars it's in, and the part numbers it supercedes)
Now, go to FCP Euro, and enter that part number in "Search"
https://www.fcpeuro.com/BMW-parts/33...ds=12138616153
I'd buy the Delphi, with NGK plugs in the kit. BMW says you can use Delphi or Bosch coils, but do not mix them. That said, originals were Delphi.
And, well, truth be known, you can actually trim the little tab off the coils to fit your "slip", but buying coils from Autozoo is a major mistake anyway, you'll likely end up with crap.

@bmwdirtracer,
Thanks for the tech tips.
I'll check those links and then I'll post back to follow up.
Appreciated!

@MauiM3Mania, thank you, I'll check it out!
The keyway changed positions slightly (centered vs offset). The one below shows it offset, which is what you need (part number 0221504465)
Below is the Bosch part number you said you bought, which is incorrect, it has a centered keyway (or, uh... "slip")
The date cutoff listed in RealOEM can also be wrong, some cars on either side of the cutoff have had either type
For the record, I don't think it actually matters at all. I know people who just file the keyway off of the coil completely and have been fine. As a general rule of thumb I don't advise doing this without knowing what you are doing (this is also done, for instance, to install lower temp fan switches on E36's). But in this case it is worth mentioning that the most recent revision for the BMW coil plug completely removes the keyway altogether... if it mattered, they wouldn't have done this
