    FI manifold for 3.0

I want to build my E3 3.0 for torque, 5-speed and the tallest gear set that makes sense. My question is about M30 fuel injection intake manifolds. I know the modern manifolds are torque oriented, but my concern is that a 3.5 manifold would not work out well with the smaller displacement of my 3.0. Was there a newer Euro version for smaller displacement M30 cars? Is the 3.2 or 3.4 manifold smaller? Wanting to use Motronic with a custom chip just to clarify. Thanks

My 3.0 is in perfect condition, numbers match etc. Looking to add on FI that could be easily changed back to original. I have an E32 3.5 to go big if I want to.

To me, swapping in a different differential, different transmission, different manifold with fuel injection isn’t numbers matching. You will never have the torque of a 3.4L with a 3.0L. You could just store the entire drivetrain rather than half of it. But to the original question, there were E34 530i six cylinder motronic in Europe (and Exx 630i and E32 730i) so if the manifold is different you can probably patiently source one.

Is the motronic distributor compatible? I had a Bavaria with a late 3.4L (and 5 speed and LSD) and recall an issue with the distributor, but we were running dual webers. The distributor in the motronic motor was not compatible with the distributor for the Bavaria so an earlier cam with distributor drive gear had to be swapped in. I don’t recall all the details and this may not affect you since you are not swapping in a later motor and retaining the Bavaria carbs and ignition, but you are converting a Bavaria to the later motor fuel injection and there may be a connection to the ignition.

Great thoughts - the cam/distributor might be a deal breaker. Thanks for the info on the intake.
