    E39 540I CCV vent tube

So while I was replacing my ccv this afternoon, the pipe that is centered in the intake manifold came unseated? it essentially just fell off when I pulled the cover off. It’s loose in there now

Can I reseat it from the back or do I need to pull the manifold?

It’s the pipe labeled 7 in the diagram

You can get it into place without pulling the manifold, if you look at the front right side of the manifold about where it meets to the heads you'll see that tube go into the back of the timing cover area

I think we might be talking about different parts. I’m referring to the long plastic vent tube. It’s internal in the intake manifold.

I could see it being possible to remove the throttle body to gain access.

    Possible , yes.
    But not worth the trouble.
Better to remove the manifold, thoroughly clean it, then re seat or replace that vent tube and its O-rings. It probably lost an O-ring that attaches it to the manifold.

Another option is to find an ebay or junkyard used manifold -with vent tube, oil tube and gaskets- still intact, and replace the whole shebang. Screw in your new CCV, before installing it.

You can re-connect it by removing the throttle body and the adapter plate that connects the TB to the intake manifold.
After you remove those parts it’s a 1 min job to re-connect it.

Thanks Jim, that’s what I’m planning on doing.

Does this part just work to help distribute the oil throughout the cylinders? Was curious what’s its function was

Yes, if you look at the tube you’ll see a hole mid way and another one at the front end. That distributes the oil vapors to the cylinders.

When I replaced the manifold in my car, I cut and glued the tab in the lower left corner that holds the end of this tube. After some time when I removed the front cover to replace the TB, to my dismay, I found that it got loose and the engine ate it. I removed that tube. Should I be looking into replacing it? The old 840i manifold I have with the velocity stacks (the one with only 4 fuel rail screw bosses) has no provisions for this tube.
