So I've got a '92 325is which I've prepared to compete in DS w/ the BMWCCA. It does fairly well there but I'd kinda like to try another club...
Unfortunately my research suggests this car would wind up in STX with the SCCA, where it would get absolutely demolished judging by what else is in the class. M3's, RX8's and such. Unless it would fit into STS?
Here's my list of performance items...
- 8.5" wheels
- 245's
- Offset M3 lca bushings
- coilovers
- front sway
- camber plates
- strut bar
- x-brace
- catback
- seats
- stock LSD
Thank folks!

Nationally, no. That ship sailed when the FRS/BRZ got added to STX, they are a far more competitive autocross car. Locally you won't really know until you show up.
Oof. The RS/BRZ totally escaped my mind for some reason. We have a ton of them here in CO so I'm guessing Id get smoked locally too. Damn E36 is just too heavy & underpowered.

Don't give up so easily. The E36 was the "go to" car for STX until the Twins came along. I'm sure a well prepped, well driven E36 could be very competitive locally. And the 92 325is would be one of the lightest bases to start a build from. They have more torque than a BRZ/FRS and only slightly less power.
Yeah I'll probably give it a go anyways and see how it works out.
My car is pretty well sorted at this point. I just got a Z3 rack which was the last major item. The "chicago boxes" have been killing me with the stock rack.

Your car is now illegal for STX as a result of installing that rack. Well, the X Brace was also illegal anyways. You'll have to compete in either Street Modified or Xtreme Street A/B (noting this is not a national class). Your car is not going to likely be competitive in any of these classes, but I wouldn't overthink it, it'll still be fun to drive and if you get more serious about competition, you'll need to consider a new chassis.

Hah!
It does seem like the SCCA rules could use a little revamp soon though.
Considering what class this car would be in given the mods.
Oh well. I didn't build the car according to their rules, so it is no big surprise.

I've tried for many years with my car in STX and have always been a few seconds off per course. A better driver than me could probably trophy occasionally. I'll still be out this year with some proper tires and not heat cycled RS4s.
