I picked up 2 e39 540i 6 speed parts cars the other day and I'm debating what to do with them. Ideally I'd keep a spare trans for my e39 M5 and make the most money with the other car & parts I can. But not sure what's the best bang for the buck on my side? I have a shop, lift tools etc.
1 of the parts cars is completely trashed, not sure of engine condition and probably will never know. I bought it that way. The other car could be restored but it's got beige interior and the body is so-so. Not a great example to restore IMO. So..
1) Pick up a clean low mileage e38 and 6 speed swap it then sell it?
2) Keep a trans and sell the other parts from both cars individually?
3) Sell 1 set as a complete 6 speed swap then parts from the rest?
4) M62 & 420G in an E30 or E36 or e46 or?
5) other cool (realistic) ideas?

I got the engine out of the first 540. Easy peasy.
Thinking to just sell a manual swap "kit" and part the rest with this car.

Washed the second one. It was nasty.

E39s are a dime a dozen so I say the E38 Manual conversion would be really cool. I saw one once a long long time ago back in 2000 when the One lap of America came thru Colorado Springs at PPIR. It was a 740iL with the 6-speed in it. Granted not a big market for such a car , but very cool non the less. What I really want is an E32 750iL with a manual in it along with an LSD and open Exhaust. That would be one bad ass Daily Driver.
