From reading online, looks like its either the amp or the headunit that fail on these cars causing no sound output through the speakers. How can i definitively diagnose if it is the headunit or the amp before buying replacement parts? Thanks!

I'm currently having the same issue! Will be testing another amp shortly to see if that's the issue or not!
Current Cars: 2001 750iL, 2001 540iT

Ben, Glad to hear that amp took care of it. Exactly the same situation with my wagon. Mine showed a little corrosion on one of the plugs, from a water leak? I swapped in a clean amp and everything works fine now. Something tells me the tourings are prone to a minor water leak in that rear corner.
Jon, Check the plug connections on your amp for minor corrosion. What year and model is your touring? Is your amp silver w/diagonal alloy heatsink, or black w/vertical black heatsink? I may have another amp to try.
