Hello! I've just gotten royally screwed. I recently bought a 2003 760Li from someone who claimed (falsely) that it was in perfect condition and needed nothing. Per the BMW dealer, it needs a transmission. They've told me that I can supply the transmission and it'll cut down on their costs. I found a transmission on eBay with a 1 year warranty for a 2003 up to February 2003 production. Mine is a March 2003 production model. The part number does not match, but it's still the GA6HP26Z transmission. The part number for the transmission I found is 24007527560, and the part number for the March 2003 diagram is 24007534327. Are these parts able to interchange? My sense is not, because that would imply I have gotten lucky. But if somebody knows, please let me know.
What is wrong with it? Most often it is the valve body or bridge seals... an easy fix.
It's slipping in gears 4, 5 and 6. Any meaningful load in those gears causes it to go into failsafe mode.
I did some research a few days ago. When this happens on the E90s, it's usually the valve body, so I think it might be the valve body, and I'm trying to get it into a shop that can pull it and do the solenoids. My sense is the BMW dealer here doesn't have much experience with the E66.
As a brief update, I have found somebody to rebuild it. It was absolutely screwed. Valve body did nothing.
