Alpina’s arrived today. I am very happy with the set. Great transaction from a real standup seller. All four have been refinished. VERY high quality in the original Alpina color, painted not powder coated as they would have been originally done. New Alpina caps, o-rings, valves and balanced tires. Three kegs and little tool to remove the lock cap. They had not been used since refinishing two years ago except for two of the four wheels having been mounted and driven less than 20 miles to compare the two sets the seller had. The open lug against this set with the center caps. Glad the seller choose to keep the open lug set. I can’t wait to get these on the M6. I didn’t think I’d ever find a proper set. I’ll post pictures once on the car. Should match nicely with the Salmon Silver color.

Those are stunning, drop-dead gorgeous wheels! Thanks for the update, can't wait to see what they look like.
Salmon is a rare color...that'll really be a good combo.

Max,
I am not sure but who on earth wants Alpina in 16 inches
on E24 with 205 tires up the front and 225 in the rear ?
In my opinion you made massive mistake here....
E24 World bumper cars do like wide tires from esthetic stand
point due to wider and lower, bigger design on the bumpers.
When you install them on the car they will look small specially
with your OEM ride height whit those big fender gaps....
Tire side wall is reduced compared to TRX and that will open
the gap even more..
If Greg board member is here now days he can post a picture
from his Alpine set up. 17x8.5 and 17x9.5 235 45 17 and rear
265 40 17. I will try to post pictures later.
Regards,
Anri

The standard 415mm TRX wheels that late E24's came with are 16.3 inches so the 16" wheel is closer to stock than the 17". Here in the UK 16" tyres are far fewer in choice than 17's and there is always the risk that if you choose 17's it will expose any slight small wear by vibration in ball-joints or suspension bushes.
Horses for courses - the 16's look small by modern standards but the first E24's started on 13" wheels so 17's can look too much - 18's certainly do imho.
Edit - a good post on sizes here...

I do.
This exact staggered setup, including the offset and tire sizes is the way Alpina set up their tuned E24’s and E28’s. Take a look at an Alpina brochure of the era. According to many (Alpina included) the 205 tire size upfront helps to improve the E24’s steering dynamics. I cannot confirm this as have not yet driven on these.
This setup also brings the overall size as close to the stock TRX 415’s as possible. I personally like the look of the stock M6 TRX’s.
TRX (195mm x 415mm) ............... 7.6" x 16-3/8" - ET19 with a 240/45-415 tire that has a diameter of 24.84"
The typical replacement rim is
7" or 7.5" x 16" - ET20 or less with a 225/50-16 tire that has a diameter of 24.85"
7.5" or 8" x 17" - ET20 or less with a 235/45-17 tire that has a diameter of 25.32"

I think I'd have preferred going with a nice set of 16's on my '79 vs the 17's I put on there. Running the 17's looked pretty good (Racing Dynamics RGP's 17x8.5 square) but definitely slowed the car down from a standstill. With the OEM 14's on it, she was a killer out of the hole. The 17's took away that bite for sure.
definitely post pics. Looking forward to checking it out.
