Just purchased a 2016 328i F30 with 55k miles. Car rides as thou it needs coils and bushings. Ideas and cost?
I have a 2014 F30 328i with 108k miles on it, and it’s been a TX car for its whole life. The bushings are still fine. What makes you think the bushings are worn out on your car that is half the age and has half the miles that mine does?
The dampers (front struts and rear shocks) on mine have seen better days, so the car bounces and floats more than it used to. So I’m going to replace them in the coming months, along with new bump stops, and possibly upper mounts if they seem to be worn. I am considering the Koni Special Active struts and shocks, which use Koni’s Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) technology.

Old string but hoping someone will assist. I just got a quote to replace all 4 of the dampers on my 2013 335i xDrive sedan from a BMW performance tuner that is conveniently located near my house. I wanted to try them out But their estimate allowed for 10 hours to replace the 4 dampers at a rate of $190/hr. I don't have a huge issue with the hourly (should I?) but 10 hours? How long should it typically take?
I have never worked on an xDrive model, so I don’t know if it is more complicated to replace the dampers…but I doubt that it is.
Ten hours of labor sounds excessive for a professional shop. An experienced backyard mechanic could do the replacement faster than that. I am preparing to replace the struts and shocks on my F30 328i (non xDrive), and will be re-using the springs, so I will need to disassemble the front struts to swap the springs to the new struts. The rear springs are separate from the rear shocks, and the rear upper mounts disconnect from the fender wells, so there is no need to remove the rear deck or trunk trim to access the upper mounts.

Thanks for the reply, confirmed my concern. I got a quote from my usual shop a year or so ago and their labor was about half of what this new shop quoted but hard to tell how many hours they bid. What are you going to replace your struts and shocks with? I've been pretty set on Bilstein B6 as I feel currently handling is just too soft, especially during hard transitions, emergency lane change type movements.
I bought Koni Special Active shocks and struts, as well as new mounts and bump stops. I will be keeping the original springs.
