After getting two estimates for over $1,000 to replace the spark plugs in my 2015 M5, I decided to do it myself with the aid of YouTube and decades’ experience working on cars.
Took quite awhile, and I’d hoped to not have to disconnect the DMEs, but despite a couple videos saying the job was possible and not unplug them, I simply couldn’t get to cylinders 3, 4, 7 or 8, so I bit the bullet, disconnected the battery and then all of the DME connections to get them out of the way.
Eventually got all 8 replaced and everything back together, but the car wouldn’t start initially. After a few tries, it started, but with a CEL. When I did a OBD diagnostic scan - tons of codes popped covering a wide range of systems - all of which seemed to be working fine (at idle in the garage).
Is it ok to clear all of these codes and see if any/which ones come back? Will this damage anything if I do this? There’s a warning on the ‘clear all’ page on the scanner that says you can’t get the codes back once you clear them - which seems fine to me, but I may be wrong here.
What say the experts? Thanks a ton in advance.
Just clear them. It is no problem. Those that return you can look at and solve

Just print/write down the current codes, then clear and see what comes back. Just the act of disconnecting things can create codes
