Smile Question: What to do if I feel my brand new X3 2023 30i tires not balanced

Picked up my brand new 2023 X3 30i just this Tuesday Dec 6th.

    • Feeling car is shaking as if tires are not balanced when under low speed below 40 km/h. The lower the speed is the stronger the sensation gets.
    • Break abruptly when the vehicle coming to a complete stop even when I apply the break very gently and smoothly.
    • I do not see above two issues with my used 2020 RAV 4 or 2019 Santa FE.

Am I being too sensitive or it is really an issue? What is the best suggestion pls? Thank you so much!

I would overinflate the tires to +5 psi, and drive around a hundred miles or so, just in case they somehow developed some flat spots. Although I don't see new cars sitting in dealer lots too long, maybe it's as simple as that.

Then bring the pressure back down to normal as written on the door.

Eh, this brand new car shouldn't shake. If you feel it below 40kph, my best guess is that your wheel bolts are loose. Somewhere in the car is a lug wrench. I wouldn't drive the car until making sure the wheels are bolted on tight. Stranger things have happened - maybe the dealer had to replace a tire that went flat, and no one torqued the bolts.

Particularly since this is a low speed vibration, I'd be sure balance isn't the issue.

@Chris, you won't find a lug wrench in a newer BMW anymore unless the owner put one in.

No spare, so no lug wrench?

I know, I know. I'm just old, okay? My '01 M5 doesn't have space for a real spare either, though I have a full sized spare at the shop, carry it when I travel. With a damned real jack , and a torque wrench even. And I buy the very best tires, too.

But I'm still pissed off about the spare tire being discarded in favor of hydraulic trunk lifts, thousand dollar windshields, sunroofs, absurd brakes for cars that have no need for them, and run flat tires.

So I have a AAA card, sigh.

And don't get me started about how much I hate wheel locks.

The "Censored" was certainly not directed at my friend Darin, just a grudging acknowledgement that My beloved screaming ICE cars, with manual gearboxes, are seemingly doomed.

I'm on the lookout for another E39M5, though, don't plan to need anything more or less than that.

Well with the rise of run-flat or run on flat tires, BMW pull most of the tools out of the trunk. On the wife's F-45, there was room for a space saver but didn't have one. Found out it was a 600 euro option, so went to the junk yard and pulled one out of a E-46 and the jack kit out of a E-60 and it fit fine. The kids F-20 doesn't even have the space for one, just a tire pump and fix-a-flat goop.

I suspect all this is because of all BMW drivers (in the USA at least), maybe 5% know how to change a wheel for a flat tire. Or if they do know, they wouldn't do it and they'd call road assistance anyways.

Agreed, but here in Germany it's taught during driving school. While it's a bit expensive, I think it's well worth it for my kids now understand all the rules of the road and how to properly drive from a professional.

I remember reading in Roundel, maybe ten or twelve years ago, that BMW conducted an owner survey, in the UK, to see if existing owners would be upset with a front-drive BMW. The survey indicated that 95% of British BMW owners did not know that their car was rear drive.

    Sigh.

I was talking to a guy in a parking lot the other day. He was telling me how much he loved the power of the V6 in his 540. I would have corrected him if his cute girlfriend hadn't been right there with us.

Well, now that the Mercedes AMG C63 is a 2 liter 4 cylinder, nothing is sacred anymore.

    Haha!

I admit there are a few that drive really well and wouldn't be rejected by anyone on this thread.

This was my first thought too. 'tis the state of today's BMW customer.
