I was disappointed by the last set of Sachs struts I had. They were bottoming in a short time. Cheapies on mine now, Monroe, but holding up so far. Ride isn't as nice as the Sachs before they failed. Maybe I got a bad lot.
Curious to know others experience as I'm expecting this job on my "new" E39.

I have a pair of Sachs coming my way in a few days. Ill post something once I’ve swapped.
I remember Monroe as a good brand but haven’t bought any in a long time.
It says 24 months of warranty on the Sachs, but that means little if you have to do the job all over again.

I bought Sachs a few years back for my winter beater. Not a ton of miles but no complaints, they work just fine.

^^^Ditto this. I installed a set on all 4 corners several years ago. Resolved the death-wobble immediately and still going strong.

$222 vs. $130 seems like way too big of a price difference for the same sku number. hmmmm...

I replaced my two front Bilstein HDs with Sachs from FCP a few years ago, and no noticeable change in performance since installing them. Ross - maybe you inadvertently got a set of bad ones or knock-offs of inferior quality.

FYI, I went back to Sachs because one of the HDs locked up at ~60% compression in under 50k miles.

I put a set of Sachs on the front of my E39 4 or 5 months ago. I replaced the originals which, at 180K, were completely blown out. I really like the ride. Not harsh, but not too soft. I replaced my rear Sachs with Sachs maybe 3 months back. I don't think I really needed to, but wanted all four corners to be of the same vintage. I hope they last because those rear struts are a colossal PITA to replace. I do like the ride they give. I put a set of KYBs on my E46 and I think they are too harsh. I think if I had to do it all again I'd use Sachs on the E46, too.

Well, there are a few knock-off's "chinesum" Sachs out there, and some old Sachs rebuilt.
But the original new Sachs should last +15 years or over 100K miles, though they are quiet expensive.

    *Quite lol.

But it's even way more expensive if you have M-tech ii suspension. Only option is BMW at $495 for each front strut and $750 for each rear shock. Hence why most of us that have m-tech ii, go with aftermarket options. Hey it's only money.

During that Black Friday joke they (RA) actually raised the price to $160? Very weird.
If RockAuto started selling knock-offs they wouldn’t be in business for long.
EDIT: just by looking at the pictures I would be more suspicious of what sachs struts FCP sells. The RA has the red or blue tape on them. Fcp has not.
