Can small case axles be used with a medium case differential?

I've acquired a 188mm LSD from an M3 that I want to install in my 318iS. I have a 6cyl propshaft/driveshaft to go with the diff, my question is can I use my small case axles/half shafts if I swap the output flanges over from the small case diff to the LSD?
