Looking at a non running E61 530i touring for possible purchase. It had been driven in limp mode previously and from what i understand battery went dead plus key fob battery dead as well. Owner replaced both batteries and car will not fire up, he states car has power but it remains silent.....i'm thinking EWS because of my own experiences with a E39 540i i own but would like other thoughts before i potentially purchase a lrg paperweight for the driveway

It all boils down to your confidence in your abilities. It's not a bargain if it's only going to cause you headaches. There are a lot of other E61s out there.

E61's don't even have an EWS as such. The electronics on the E6x generation were completely revamped compared to old models and require a little bit different mindset regarding diagnostics. If you don't have an understanding of them already, I wouldn't buy a non-running example to start with

Thought it would be a nice project due to my tinkering skills but can you give me a little more info on the "newer" EWS systems differences between lets say the E39 and E61?

Check under the spare tire for water. Then fix the sunroof drains. Use the larger tubing insert method.
