    Opening headlights

I can’t get this link to open from the faq section. http://webspace.ringling.edu/~dplass...headlight.html
Anyone have any tips for opening up the factory headlights? I’ve read about baking them in the oven to get the lenses off and the again when putting them back together. Thanks!

Yup, 250* for 10-15 min. Remove everything you can from the exterior, breathers, bulbs, silver clips at the parting half.

When opening them up use two flat screw drivers and ensure the butyl sealant does string out and get on anything.

Here is a video, though not specifically for a Z3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anN0vYBj6Uo. Google around and you will find several such videos. All seem to differ slightly as to time and temperature.

Unless the headlight has been under water, most anything that LOOKS like dirt on the inside of lens is on the outside. Sometimes, clearing it up requires wet sanding.

I have cleaned a lot of headlights, and the cloudiness/discoloration has always on the outside.

Welp, the car has been under water, lol. I bought a salvaged flood car for parts and there is definitely some water spots and condensation in there.
