grove in between gear and engine connections

    greetings.
    car : e34 520i
    engine :- m50 b20
    transmission:' 5 18hp euro
    model :- 1993

i have this grobe in between engine and transmission, it is only on passenger side, the driver side looks sealed .
wonder why I have this groove ? is it normal ? and does it connected i somehow to force LIMP mode in cold start ?

You mean the leaking oil? Never heard it called a "grove" or "grobe" before. Find the highest place where it's wet. My guess is the valve cover gasket, #3 here:

It looks bad enough to cause an intake air leak, or an oil leak onto the spark plugs, both of which may cause poor running as you notice.

I think Moroza is on the right track, check all around your valve cover gasket with a mirror and flashlight, you can also run your hands along edge when engine is not hot to see if there is a valve cover leak. Most likely a leaky gasket is dripping on to the transmission.

If your gasket is good then you might have a leaky front transmission seal, that will require more work depending on how aggressive the leak is, and can cause limp mode if you are low on transmission fluid. Check your transmission fluid level, if low top up and see if limp mode goes away.

If the leak is front seal (automatic) then you will have to pull transmission and replace front seal, do maintenance on transmission (drain fluid replace filter, transmission pan cover gasket and refill with new fluid).

    Happy Wrenching!
