Headers! And center section! Still need to add the 2 x O2 sensor bungs and the H pipe to the center section, but these are basically ready for ceramic coating now.

Get to get going on the final assembly this week. Going to pull the engine today and get started on the brake linkage install, and probably do a better 3d scan of the engine bay for future work.

Been a while since I updated! The current work is getting a new wiring harness in place for the Link XtremeX standalone ECU. I'll get a few pictures of that today, but in the mean time, a collection of random updates/photos:

New E46 heater core valve and mounting bracket. The hoses were a real pain, the in/out on the block is 1" OD, the valves are 3/4" OD, and the heater core are 5/8" and it's in a super tight area since I got the engine so far back:

Using this dead space under the cowl to hold a giant power distribution bar. The battery is in the trunk, so this combines the power wires for the battery, the starter, the old fuse box, and the pair of new fuse boxes.

Got the new center section done. The rest of the rear exhaust is the supersprint setup. The forward parts are all my custom build, and they're now ceramic coated. V-band clamps to make it easy to remove the center section.

Power steering reservoir and remote oil filter bracket (had to make this thing like 4 times until I got it right, it now actually reversed with the oil filter near the headlight, more room there):

More header pictures before coating. Note the M70 starter that has the solenoid off to the side for steering clearance.

Also did some destructive testing on the main pivot arm for the brake setup to make sure the chromoly 0.25" didn't get brittle after welding. They bent, but survived a 12 ton hydraulic press:

And, last for now, lots of heat shielding before the engine went back in. Also tried to fully cover the steering box since the exhaust is so close.

Thanks for the link, I’m subscribed.
Just read all the posts. Nice job on the headers. I put some on my 540, it was a PITA.
(Hi Henn28, I see your subscribed too. You need to update your build too).

Yeah, they were by far the biggest project on the whole thing. They can't really be installed without lifting the engine out, hence the v-band clamp on everything. The wiring harness will have a disconnect at the firewall so hopefully that helps next time I have to pull the engine for some reason.

It went in pretty easily. It does not have tapped mounting holes on the flange, and using nuts to hold it in would be a pain. However, those through holes are just the right diameter to be able to tap them for M10 heli-coils.

I do have to fix this potential short area though, hopefully the starter doesn't get too baked by the headers.

It's pretty nearly complete at this point, a full year later. Still need to finishing wrapping up the wiring harness, and a bunch of shake down and drive tuning, then I'll get it to the dyno. The Link ECU is working pretty well, I'm appreciating the upgrade over the previous megasquirt. I do have the left bank (5-8) running a bit richer, and I need to check to see if that side of the engine needs its own additional grounding. Right now there is a large starter ground on the 1-4 side, and a header grounding strap to the firewall but nothing on the 5-8 side.

This was taken before I hooked up the booster vacuum and master cylinder reservoir lines.

Super short shift linkage. Also in second gear the shifter linkage is slightly rubbing on the guibo, but I think I can fix that by using the UUC short shifter I have laying around.

And, if you want to change the master cylinder or work on it's brake lines, you have to go in through the front headlight now, but it's pretty open once you do:
