    cooked 91 850 eml

    Hi all,

    I have just purchased a 91 850i.

The last owner touched the body whilst doing up the positive and blew the EML and both engine ECUs.
His mechanic found second hand ECUs and got each bank working separately now i imagine its just the EML.

My issue is i cannot find Bosch 0 205 000 015 1733598, all other 850i and 7501 from the same year have different part numbers.

    My question is:
can i use an EML from another 850/750 or does it have to be that exact part number?

if it does come from another car will it need to be coded?

Or worst case would getting all 3 from another car work?

    Thanks

    Hi bowlertomcat,

the EMLs with the following numbers 0285006004, 0205000004, 0205000005, 0205000015, 0205000023 all consist of the same hardware. Only the software versions are different. The software versions can be adjusted either by replacing or reprogramming the EPROMs.

    Regards, Joachim

Before you dump a bunch of money on new computers, Check that you have power in the EBox (the box with the EML/DME) it's possible that you just blew the fusible link in the trunk. (It's vinyl wrapped and not always obvious) You can cheat by jumping 12V from the B+ post to the + post in the EBox...
