Hey guys, first post, just joined because I saw a lot of M30 swaps via google searches on this site, but I had a question. I've seen the swaps where people have grabbed the 3.5L out of an e34 or something, but then you have to deal with fuel injection and all that. Rather not do that... seems like a pita.
My question is... can I just swap the longblock? I know the mounts and oil pan are issues, but can I use the M30B35 longblock with all my M30B28 stuff like the head/accessories?
Thanks in advance!
We had a Bavaria with a 94 3.5L. I was not involved in the swap, which was done 25 years ago, but as I understand the late motors don’t have a distributor drive gear on the cam so the cam must be swapped or I think a Schrick cam has the gear if you want more performance. We had dual webers on ours and a 5 speed Getrag 265. Adjust the cam since if you don’t they can go flat — that happened to us during a period of neglect but the car suffered an accident and had some serious rust so I never got around to buying the Schrick.
What do you mean by adjust the cam so it doesn't go flat? Thanks for the help. Picking up the engine tomorrow.
The combustion chamber must match to piston dome.
My car was a M30B30, now runs an M30B35 with triple webers. So yes, just put webers on it. My engine puts out 370hp (Group A race engine) so performance is in now way harmed.
