Hello everyone
My e34 right wiper arm hits the hood. I know that the bushings in the arm are the problem but changing them is something difficult to do. Any solution for this other than changing the bushings? Something easier maybe
Get a strut bar that pushes the hood up slightly. Elsewise, bushing time
install a new damper ring #16, these get smaller or fall apart and then the position of the wiper system changed http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/E3...e_wiper_parts/

here we did it on an E32 and made the rubber damper ring DIY http://e32b12.blogspot.com/2013/03/w...nge-noise.html

Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
I made a couple of damper rings (as shogun indicated with #16 above) with parts I had in my garage and that solved the problem. Better than new.
Make sure the circlip that holds the splined shaft to the mechanism is still in place - mine was missing causing passenger wiper to flop up and down quite a bit.
I just wanted to say thanks, Shogun!
I just finished installing a pair of those bushings and that clunking I've endured for 11 years is gone. I thought I was going to need to rebuild the wiper mechanism to cure it.
One of the bushings had turned to dust, and the other was missing a few chunks. Stuffing the passenger side one in was a challenge, but I'm delighted I don't have to listen to that noise anymore.
Danke.
Edit: Looks like I spoke too soon. The first time I used them in anger, the clunk returned. Guess I'll have to find a set of those bushings and try to figure out how to replace them. Oh, well, these were bad and needed replacing, anyway.
