Firewall Body Plug Beneath Stearing Column Need PN#

I just noticed a huge pass-through hole between the engine bay and the interior. The hole is just under and maybe a little to the side of the steering column. It looks like its approximately 30-32mm wide, but hard to access from either side. Any help in identifying a workable part to close up this hole would really be appreciated!

You probably have some hot air coming thru that hole. I got some "Great Stuff" from Lowes or Home Depot and plugged it up. Great Stuff is spray insulation in a can !!

I would look for a large grommet and cut one side to wrap it around the cables going through the firewall. Once it's in place, wrap the cables in rubber or neoprene tape to fill the gap.

It's a little hard to be sure, but I'm thinking you have an automatic E24? That looks like the clutch master cylinder pass-through hole. Manual cars have two boots to seal up the firewall, one for the supply hose and another for the master cylinder output. Here's the parts diagram.

I couldn't find any obvious sealing plug in BMW's catalog, but I'd figure it's just a small rubber plug with a lip, like maybe an inch in diameter (20-30mm)? I'd guess (hope) it's pressed in from the passenger side. BMW's catalog lists a bunch of misc. plugs for our cars, that's the best I could find. Their schematics are usually pretty good, but not this time.
    Save the manuals!

Look for "Acoustical Putty" on Amazon. It is a non-hardening, moldable, fireproof sheet that can wrap around the cables and close the hole in the firewall. I have also used it to wrap electrical boxes on outside walls in my house to block air infiltration.
Because it is dense, it can also function as a sound dampener on outside body panels like other heavy coatings.

Yes, its an auto, and yes it looks like that hole would be for manual trans related pass through. I found a 36mm x 30mm oval plug pn # 51711872829 that might be the right part and have one on order. In the meantime I purchased a wedge shaped sink stopper at home depot and used a dremmel to somewhat modify the shape. The fit is ok for now and I'll try swapping it out when I get a chance.
