I have had hard starts the past month or so, now I can not get my 86 735i euro 5speed started at all. it just turns over. It is getting colder, but I am not getting any fuel to the engine.
i did a few fuel tests, as in removing hoses in engine bay (no fuel came out when trying to start). I moved back to the fuel pump and filter - no fuel coming out when i disconnect the hoses and try to start.
Last summer, I replaced both the fuel pump by the filter, and the filter and it ran fine. I also replaced the in-tank with the 'fix' pump, since the original pump is no longer available.
I swapped the relay, also swapped another fuse - no difference in the car not starting.
Any ideas? Shouldn't a Bosch fuel pump last more than a year? If the in-tank is not working/faulty, could that cause the main pump to burn out quickly?
It did drive better (i was having hesitation issues) until now.
Thanks.
Did you also check for spark? How about injector pulse?
Jump the fuel pump relay and check for voltage back there.
Last I recall the Motronic closes the FP relay during cranking. Possible one your reference sensors shit the bed. Mine just fell apart on the 11/84 745i.
