    Side marker light problem

I’ve only owned my 95’ e34 for a week and I’m getting to all of the gremlins. First on the list is all 4 of my side marker lights don’t work but yet there is no warning on the dash… weird. Also 1 back up light is out also no warning on dash. But yet 1 license plate light was out and it gave me a warning on dash. Im not sure what’s more strange all 4 side marker lights out at the same time or no warning on dash? Any ideas?

The 4 marker lights will not trigger warning light, this is normal and designed for the option to run with Euro bumper trim that deletes these lights for a more cleaner look. So no gremlins there.

The license plate light are the same bulb as the interior trunk bulb, you can swap out to address warning light until you get a replacement bulb.

If you are getting electrical problems in the back of the car, you should inspect the loom wiring on trunk lid hinge, these wires are know to wear in this location. Here is YouTube video link that shows this loom wiring location and wear.

Congrats on your new purchase, happy wrenching!

So what would be the problem with the marker lights if it’s not the bulbs? Seems odd that all 4 bulbs would be blown.

In your fuse box under the hood find the rectangular item with "LKM" on it. This is the light control module.

Inside the fuse box you'll find connection X245 and X246 that go to this module, a grey violet one that correlates to pins 26 and 28 at the LKM also a grey yellow one that correlates to pins 7 and 27.

According to the BMW wiring diagram, two of each color to the LKM are to the headlight switch and the other two to the side marker lights right side and left side. Identify the ones for your side markers and double check their connection to the original circuit to see if there is current go to it and check to see if LKM module is working properly.

Good luck, in troubleshooting this electrical issue.
