Hope everyone is doing well. I have a 530i in-line turbocharged 4 cylinder I wanted to remove the plastic engine cover so I could do some light cleaning of the intake and around the coil packs. Any suggestions? I've never had any issues washing around theses same areas on our Camry. I've heard and read of some nightmare stories where the engine on a BMW was washed and it created complete havoc on the engine. On our Camry I used Simple Green and allowed it to soak for a few minutes and used a very light water hose spray (shower or mist) to do the rinse. I follow up with drying the engine.
Thanks!
Simple green is know to discolor unprotected aluminum. Pick a cleaner/degreaser that is compatible with the materials under the hood.
Definitely use a mist setting and you should be good.
I use La's Totally Awesome all purpose cleaner and cut it to about 1:1 with water. Let it dwell for a few minutes, agitate the stubborn areas with a brush then rinse with a gentle mist of water.
