So when we try to start the car it spins over nicely but does not start. It seems to try to start on the first few spins but doesn't. Afterwards there is a faint smell of fuel, but I don't see any fuel leaks. I'm using a Foxwell code reader with BMW software loaded. The only codes I'm getting for the engine are 2EE1 and 2EF4, which seem to be coolant related. Can coolant related faults prevent the engine from starting? It has an N62 engine. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated, Thx. Eric
I forgot to mention the car has 162,000 mi on it. Was wondering if the Cam sensors could be bad? Can the CPS be bad and not throw a code? I see almost 100 people looked at this thread, someone probably has some thoughts, PLEASE comment, I'm not sure which direction to go and really need some help. THANK YOU, Eric
You can try many things when it comes to this, but the most important ones are spark plugs, fuel filter, fuel pump and camshaft.
Very important if you did any work on the gear box or tampered with it, check the lever link in mechatronic.
BMW are all about safety and if everything checks out when you do the diagnostic, 100% is a sensor.
Easy reset is to try is to remove the battery connectors for 3 minutes (you must connect positive to negative using a metal key) and after 3-minutes place them back on the battery.
Once that is done, hold the acceleration pressed down to the floor before you hit the start button/key.
That of course if you don't have any errors and you're sure you have good spark plugs, make sure they spark when you crank.
Hope this will help because you can have easily 250000 miles on BMW if properly maintained.
PS: if you tampered with the timing chain and it's not correctly aligned you can forget about starting that engine.
