Hi,
I'm considering buying a '95 525 tds w/manual config (imported to U.S.). Unfortunately, it doesn't have cruise control and I would like to add it, if possible. This 2019 thread by General984 discussed the stem wiring, but was never resolved: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...l-stalk-wiring He seemed to suggest that these cars are configured, electronically, for cruise even if it wasn't an installed option.
Does anyone know if this is reasonably feasible to attempt or just a can of worms and not worth the $$$ and effort? I see there are components on Ebay available, e.g. stem and control modules, but I've found little info. about adding cruise to a manual E34 with an M51 engine. Does anyone know if these cars were "pre-wired" for cruise, thus retrofitting may not require some components that are there, but not used? Obviously ECU is a concern and engine throttle cabling.
Any suggestions or resources that could be shared would be appreciated.
Best,
Walt
Hi Walt
The diesels don't have a throttle so the cruise control is all done through the ECU. My car just needed the stalk and the clutch switch installed and it worked straight away, the wiring was already in place.

Same story here. When I had a tds I used the stalk from a e32 750i which was just plug and play.
Do have a look as there are a numer of different stalks. The angles are different for no airbag, early airbag and late airbag.
I think I might have a couple lying around, but don't know if postage from the Netherlands to the USA + import duties makes sense on a part like this.
