Hi. I'm trying to wire up an aftermarket head unit, but I'm not sure if I need to wire up the power antenna/sub turn-on wire in order to supply power for the amplified base of the antenna. In fact, I'm not even sure if Z3s have amplified antenna bases. I just read that somewhere.
The wire I'm concerned about is blue/white with a "remote" tag on the Pioneer side, and there is a solid blue wire on the Metra harness side. I was going to tape the ends of those wires and leave them unconnected because I assumed a power antenna meant something that goes up and down with a motor. Now I'm wondering about the amplification requirement.
Thank you.
The “Remote” wire supplies a low current 12VDC whenever the head unit is on. This is used to turn on an external amp or send power to the antenna amp. Go to www.realoem.com and enter the last 7 characters of your car’s vehicle identification number. Hit enter and bookmark the page. Scroll down to the bottom to the audio navigation section. Scroll dien to near the bottom abs you’ll find the antenna section. You’ll see there if you car has an antenna amp. If it does it’ll need 12VDC to work.
Thanks for the advice. I have to say, though, I don't get much out of RealOEM in terms of the stereo system.
