    E36 Rear Main Sealer Additive

Has anyone had experience with, good or bad, using a rear main seal additive in the 2.5L straight six?

So the shade tree way of getting seals to work properly is to add some ATF Dextron III to the engine oil. This is also used for flushing a motor out slowly, so if you are not due an oil change soon, well I wouldn't leave it in for more than a week or 200 miles driven. The max amount you should put in is 1 quart and be sure to be a quart low on oil so you are not overfilling the motor.

How bad is it leaking? You really shouldn't use any additive for this problem, you just have to drop the trans and do it properly.

I strongly dislike any kind of stop leak products. I always advocate actually fixing the problem. The only exception would be a car I literally didn't care about.

If you decide to go the stop leak route, the brand I have heard the most positive reviews about is Blue Devil.
