    E31 850 CSI dilema

    Hello everybody
I found this car 850 CSI registered 04/1993 with 5.4 litre 240 kw. VIN number said that was produced in 1991 with 5.0 litre 220 kw. I know that BMW does not produced this kind of model but the question remains if this car has any specific value or is just an hybrid 850 i. This is VIN number WBAEG21090CB05114.

    Thank you .

xxfiles: I wouldn't take the German vehicle registration papers ("Fahrzeugbrief") as authority on the model name. A real BMW 850CSi for example has "Fahrzeughersteller BMW MOTORSPORT" (or BMW M in later years), "Typ Und Ausführung M8/E" and the VIN starts with WBS instead of WBA. There's a picture of an 850CSi Fahrzeugbrief on e31.net (link).

Definitely NOT a CSi according to the VIN.

    Had a 1991 BMW 850

    1991 csi

My 1991 850 was a CSI when I bought it, had the trunk badge, Engine cover and CSI floormats

I took the badge off the trunk, I liked the engine cover so I never swapped it back to original and the floormats remain

In your case you need to verify if the motor is really a 5.4 liter CSI motor, I doubt it at this point. First place to start would be the engine stampings on the block

the CSi motor is the S70 that is 5.6L not 5.4L so seems to be no question its not a CSi.

    1) not a CSi
    2) not a 5.4 (or even a 5.6)
    3) never was and never will be with that VIN

This car was produced 01/1991 and first registration is 04/1993. Very strange for sereies 850. Its like a little Frankenstein of 8's. The engine is surely changed to 5.4 litre 240kw (326HP). But this enngine M73 was introduced in 1994.

No, that's an M70 shown in the engine bay, 5 Liter 300HP:

It looks like (as Revtor posted) just a mistake on the registration document

I discussed this bizarre vehicle with Reinhard from 8coupe.com/8er.org and he is quite certain that the Fahrzeugbrief (registration paper) is forged. The font and font size do not match those of a real Fahrzeugbrief and there are many factual errors on the Fahrzeugbrief. There is no way these are 'mistakes'. This is clearly an intentional forgery. Someone tried to spice up the car to make it appear more valuable.

The car itself is mixed bag. The interior was taken from CC84200. There is no history of CC84200 but it was probably salvaged at some point and its interior ended up in CB05114. Nothing wrong with that of course if you like it.

Anyway, for anyone interested in this car, be very cautious. Inquire with your local customs or vehicle registration office whether you need the original German registration papers to import the vehicle because the ones supplied with the car may cause serious problems...
