    Chinese turbo kits!?

I know the old saying, you get what you pay for, but Jezus!, how can they sell complete new M54 turbo kits with manifold and intercooler, for $600, the cheapest supercharger kit is $4K, and no free shipping($400) from Germany.,

One member bought the cxracing kit and eventually sorted it out. In the end it was not as cheap as expected but it performed ok. He posted details here a few years ago. If you don’t mind cobbling something together and replacing done parts along the way and can tune it yourself maybe you could end up doubling your power for $2000. We sure don’t read those stories here. Maybe they are on Facebook and instagram.

Yea, the tune and injectors are an additional cost!, but the initial price is ridiculously low. I needed a coil for my Stihl saw, it was in a Chinese "kit" for $18, that included a new coil, wire, plug, filters and a CARBURETOR!, it was worth more than the coil!,and free shipping halfway around the world.

If you're truly poor, please spend your hard earned money on shelter n foods,
but since you mentioned you have a Stihl chainsaw, you're likely upper echelon.

Spend pretty pennies on your BMWs please.

Then I guess turbocharging is just not for you - You'll spend over $4k even if you go the cheap ebay route.

    Well,
when your car doubles in power, now requiring diapers, it is justified.

If a person is adding $1200 cams, and thousands in other mods that BARELY bump the power,
    it is NOT justified.

My E36 was worth a lot less than 9k and i have spend a lot more (don't know how much exactly, and i don't want to know either) to make it what it is today.
Is it financially justifiably? Hell no! was it my best money ever spend? Hell yes..

If you want to justify spending money, than don't modify a car I guess

I think it is a bargain — $4k for $12k worth of fun. Amortize it over time and pretend it is only $1k per year.

Just how many years is that amortization guarantee for?,lol., I may just go for a S54 ?, about the same money, and no FI headaches, just rod bearings.

S54, S62, S65, S85 are all more fun than a USA S52. But a turbo USA S52 is a lot of fun. I won’t say it is more fun than one of those other motors—they probably all have more character. The turbo can be faster, though.

My M54 with zhp cams and a header is stronger than my S52 was, hence my doubt about an S54 being the answer.I've actually looked at 3 totalled 2022 M3 competitions for a swap, but what a project that would be, but 512 hp!

I think after all is said and done you'll spend more on an S54 swap than you would spend getting ~450hp out of a turbo kit. All depends on the cost of the S54 but they are pretty hard to find for a good price these days. Refresh/reliability upgrades costs a lot of money for them as well. Some of the bolt-ons can be reasonably priced, but to push them above 350whp range gets expensive quickly. They are very potent engines though and I'd expect them to be a little faster around a track than a slightly more powerful turbo M52 or M54.

If you want something unique and non-turbo, I'd be looking at the S65 personally. They are cheaper, lighter and more powerful than S54's. Especially if you can do the fabrication work yourself, it's something at least worth considering. Aftermarket ECU's are available for them as well, to simplify the electrical side of things

In the 350+ rwhp range, I think an S54 in an E36 would be great. With 700 rwhp there are compromises. I think I was happiest overall around 500 rwhp.

I've seen and driven several S54 swapped E36's and E30's. And I have helped turn wrenches on said swap projects. And my response is... surprisingly underwhelming. By the time you sort out the drive train, electronics, and tuning. It ends up running about a $8-10k swap. You are paying like $5k for a motor. Then nothing bolts up to it. And it's drive by wire instead of cable driven throttle. Gotta swap wiring, accessories, pedal box, tune it, sort out the trans, etc.

For the same monies u could have a bad@ss e36 turbo.

OP if you are worried about "spending 4k on a xxx amount of money car" then just don't mod cars period. We all know it's a depreciating investment. We don't care. We love it for the feels.

Only China part that warrants any discussion would be a Pulsar turbo. They seem to be pretty damn good and reliable from what I've seen so far, and I am as anti-copied-by-china products as they come.

How about this?, a battery (84volts)leaf blower induction boost on demand, will I get a few pounds of boost from a 700 cu ft blower?, I'm putting a boost button on my Hurst t handle. The whole thing will cost $200!
