    Brake lights stuck on

I have a 1998 540i and my break lights are stuck on while the car is on. My question is that I have disconnected the wires to the brake light switch AND removed the brake light fuse and the lights still stay on. I’m baffled how they can stay on with the fuse removed. Help!

    Welcome to the forum.

You have a short circuit. It may be in the LCM (light control module).

Unplug the taillight units, and determine (with a test light or multimeter) which wire/pin is hot at each plug. Is it the black/brown on the left and the black/blue on the right, with both plugs undone? If so, you probably need a light control module; but this unit also is the backup for mileage reading on many BMW's, so you need to use a brand new one, if you replace it, or you will get a "tamper dot" in the odometer.
