I bypassed all the factory wires. They’re still in there, if I ever croak…. Whoever ends up with my cars will have a stroll through the park if they wanted to put the old factory stuff back in. Another thing, I despise the DSP system, every E39 I had with it, the amps all went kaput, yet, all the ones I have had with the Hifi system, I pulled the good working amps out for the upgrade.

Yepp same here. New wires, didn’t touch any of the existing dsp stuff or wires.

On the hifi systems, Jim Lev has a chart for all the wires. We used that on raftel's red wagon. Basically, Alpine iLX-W650, RCA cables to the rear, where the amps are, 4 channel 50watts per channel, utilizing the factory speaker wires to the speakers, for bass, I hooked him up with a 300 watt Rockford Fosgate amp to a 10” JL Audio subwoofer, it sounds great in the car, decent bass, but will not piss everyone off at traffic lights.

I think I’ll take advantage of the stock speaker wires as well. They all land in the trunk area if you got dsp, so it saves a lot of hassle running wires into the doors from the trunk. They are twisted pairs so should be decent. For the two 10” shallow subs I put in my rear deck I’ll run new wires for them.

I used all the original speaker wires with the JL Audio amp.
I used Boston Acoustic speakers with the crossovers that came with the speakers.
Chris, I’m pretty sure I drew up the crossover circuit for the Boston Acoustic speakers I used.
I can dig it up if you want. It’s a pretty simple circuit.

Had to know you had the diagram. I may have the same speakers as you. BA S50’s? Send diagram if you can. No rush. Good to know the stock wires are adequate and work good with an aftermarket amp pushing more than stock.

I've got SC50's too. Here's the crossover circuit.

Do you have a pictures of the 10s mounted in the deck?

Rockford Fosgate shallow DVC 10”. They would be better with a sealed enclosure, but they work decent with the stock DSP amp. I think the new amp I’m planning will be even better. Mounted on MDF rings and some foam sealant to the uneven deck. Not glamorous but works and minimal impact to trunk space which I need.

Jim, thanks for the crossover pics and diagram! You are an incredible wealth of knowledge. Just shopping parts tonight and looks like about $20-25 in parts per. I need 4. I may just buy pre made ones to save time but not sure yet. Homemade would be better parts.

Cool! I never seen anyone else do that. Bet they hit pretty hard and maybe lacks a bit of the deepest bass?
EDIT: I’m not trying to be a smart ass I’m trying to learn

I sort of copied some really old threads when I did this with some minor changes. The stock dsp amp has limited power to push these but it’s a very noticeable improvement over the stock Nokia rear woofers. The deep bass is somewhat limited but not bad. A proper new amp should be a very nice upgrade for these.

I got rid of the Ported OEM Nokia box. I actually put 6.5”s in it first and was gonna use it, but then I found a 12” RF Subwoofer with built-in amp that I bought instead.
