    Interior door pull challenge

The door pulls on the 2002 z3 have been separating from the door card on the top and bottom of the pull. Has anyone successfully repaired the lower part of the interior handle?

To be clear, not the latch mechanism, the handle that you use to close the door on the inside of the car.

    Part that needs repair:

Yep. It's not too bad of a job if you're creative. Mine fell apart last year and I laughed when I see what people try to sell them for on eBay.

I just sort of rebuilt it with a 2-part expoxy, used some longer screws and made a backing plate to hold it in place better out of thin steel. It's rock solid now.

Did you happen to take any pictures of your process, or have any additional advice? My passenger side ripped off due to my autocross instructor

I haven't had any problems (yet) with the handle but last year when I had the doors opened up, I proactively reinforced the inside of the door card with fiberglass. It stuck to the fiberboard panels very well. I had a broken spot around the passenger side tweeter opening (don't ask) and found that thin super glue soaked in and really stiffened the damaged area. Here are some photos of the fiberglass reinforcement. Since your handle is already broken, Coconut Pete's suggestion of a backing plate would be a good one even if you decide to apply the fiberglass.

While you're in there, if you haven't already, may as well install new power window sliders. They're cheap and will need replacing at some point.

Yea knowing my luck it’s probably a good idea to go ahead and reinforce it. Thanks for the tip!

Honestly If mine falls apart again I might just eliminate it altogether and fill in the part on the armrest with black vinyl.

The oddments compartment makes for a fine door-pull if need be.
