My car is at the mechanic. He is 80 per cent sure engine is bad after only 112000 miles. Low pressure warning came on. Oil filter has metal shavings. 12000 dollar for remane engine. Is this common? Is this car worth 12000 dollars.

Have him check the timing chain, for that is known for going bad on the early N-2x motors. If you are lucky and it shows that the guides broke and the chain streached, contact customer care at BMWNA and talk to them.

In larger cities junkyards you will find that car with the similar motor, BTW, the F-10LCI 5-series also had the N-20 starting in MY-13 until the end of the run.
If you get a choice, get one from 2015 and newer, for the timing chain guides and chain were updated then.
