I surrendered my smog test and repair license when I moved out of CA to an area where there are no smog requirements, but they still send me the notices and I've been posting most of them here. They're all available online but most folks don't look for these. I guess as of 2035 most of you californicated drivers may not have to worry about this smog stuff although you may need to keep track of charging your new cars on odd or even numbered days, and not run your air conditioners at the same time. Anyway, here's the next BAR good idea: Smile, you're on Candid Camera!

Notice of Approval of Regulatory Action
Smog Check Equipment Security and Fraud Prevention
On August 15, 2022, the Office of Administrative Law approved and filed with the Secretary of State the Bureau of Automotive Repair’s (BAR) regulatory action concerning Smog Check equipment security and fraud prevention regulations.
The regulatory action amends Title 16 of the California Code of Regulations (CCR) sections 3340.15, 3340.41, 3340.45, and 3394.26.
The regulations require, no earlier than October 1, 2022, Smog Check inspectors to use biometric and web camera devices when performing a Smog Check and to allow BAR staff remote access to the inspection process via the internet when prompted by the BAR-OIS software. The regulations also require that Smog Check stations allow BAR access whenever inspections are being performed, even if the inspections occur outside normal business hours.
Notice of upcoming implementation and compliance dates, as well important information on obtaining equipment and scheduling a biometric enrollment appointment, will be made available at www.bar.ca.gov. Licensees are encouraged to carefully review upcoming ET Blasts and other BAR notifications for additional updates.
Final rulemaking materials for this action will be posted by August 30 on BAR’s Regulatory Actions page at www.bar.ca.gov.

Well that seems...Orwellian.
On the plus side, EV's will put the smog checkers out of business. Eventually.
For you californicated drivers, here's what the BAR is doing with your money. AB 471 is the most interesting. I'm sure it'll cost you money, that from an agency that was supposed to be a consumer advocate or watchdog.
