solution for stripped valve cover studs?

I have an 840 with an M62 engine and I've managed to strip the hole for one of the valve cover studs in a cam bearing cap. Rookie error, I know, but it didn't take full torque because of someone else's over-exuberance. I pulled the cam bearing cap and a helicoil is a no-go because it would interfere with an oil passage. According to BMW, the cam bearings are machined with the engine and are not sold separately. Anecdotally, plenty of bearing caps have been replaced, so perhaps this is just German over-engineering. Anyone figured out how to fix a stripped cam bearing cap? Has anyone tried cutting new threads? Or am I off to the local junkyard?
