    N54 Add Cats with Tune

Made a crazy purchase of a modded 135 at auction. Sent to shop for inspection and the biggest issue is no front cats.

They quoted $6k to add cats, remove tune and all the aftermarket stuff, then re-tune, etc.

    Any ideas for DIY options?

    Thanks

Buy used cat pipes for $1000 and a BM3 license/flasher for $1000 and flash a stock tune from the BM3 library. Do the work yourself or pay $500 for an independent shop to install the cat pipes. Sell all the modded hardware that you do not want to keep.

Thanks pbonsalb I figured it was an option.

Side note I found it has the JB4 setup (access the gauge "menu" from the steering wheel).. is setting the tune to 0 the same as a flash stock tune?

Obviously new to this, just a bolt-on man before.

Yes. JB4 Map 0 is pass through. I ran a JB4 on my 08 E61 535xi with no other mods for years. I did find that shortly after putting it on, I got intermittent misfires. The car was probably 5-6 years old then and the ignition coils had weakened. The added boost was making cylinder pressure high enough to blow out the spark. Changed plugs and swapped in coils for an S55 and no more problems. Dinan now sells replacement coils for about $28 (at least the price is around there for the ones that fit my F90 M5).

Awesome, thanks! I had codes for misfires on cyl 3 & 6, but once cleared they have not come back.
