    Cigarette Lighter Power?

Sadly it is time to start thinking about another cold Iowa winter. My wife's 2007 Z4 don't see many miles during winter. I've always used a battery maintainer during long rounds of no use. But I am constantly switching between my motorcycle and the Z. So I want to try a different approach this time. I have had good luck with a small, cheap solar charger on my lawn mower and other equipment that is often left for long times between use. I hope to get a small solar panel with a cigarette lighter plug that I can plug in and place on the dash. Easily unplugged and moved for those times to drive.

My question is, will the cigarette lighter plug stay "hot" all of the time? Or will the computer "time out" and shut it down, effectively stopping the charge of the solar panel.

Sorry this is a copy of my post. I somehow previously posted in the wrong forum.

Honestly I’d get another battery maintainer for the Z4. Mine is always on it when not in use…

Cigarette lighter outlet is always “hot”…..

Thanks. I've considered another batt maintainer. I'll have to reconsider it. Does seem like a better solution, but also just a little more effort for those times she wants to take the Z.
