I picked up a 1996 318i in Japan, it has 18000 miles and since it is so low but the car is older should I change it or leave it? It’s a m43 euro motor with gm auto trans and it shifts well.
ahhh, the great question - there's a long running poll/thread about this here:

personally, for me, fluids have a lifetime and get changed....but, respectfully, it's not my car and not my money!

+1. Absolutely, change the fluid and filter. And...when's the last time the brake fluid and coolant (antifreeze) were changed? Brake fluid should get changed every 2 years, no matter the mileage, and antifreeze every 4-5 years maximum.
