I'm replacing ALL the flex-joing bolt/nut (6x) on my '93 325i, the flex-joint disintegrated to the point of damaging some bolts.
Would this inexpensive solution

work? Only $13 for a set of 6 bolt/nuts
The shoulder is not as long as in genuine BMW
^^^ $6 per bolt, $2 per nut -- a whopping $48!! Dealer wants $12/bolt, just freaking INSANE!!
So..I'm concerned that a solid shank would be better to "fill" the sleeve of the flex-joint

In general, IE is a trustworthy vendor. But I don't like that shorter shank either, and tend to go towards the safe decision. I would confirm wth them that it is in fact shorter. Also, I'd wait to see how the pundits on this site respond to your question. ... Your instructions above say to replace the bolts, but everything I read said only the nuts. But of course, if your bolts are damaged you have to replace them. ..... Heres' one thread on the topic: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...ighlight=guibo
You can PM member '66 6'. He can give you a good price on 6.

You can find a budget solution at Home Depot. Everbilt M12-1.75 60mm bolts (Grade 8.8) 2-pack for $4.75.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt...022082#overlay
3-pack of M12-1.75 nuts for $2.75
For 6 bolts & nuts, comes to $19.75 + tax
See pic. The shoulder is not as long as the stock BMW M12-1.5 58mm. The nuts are regular (non-locking). But, Home Depot sells some locking nuts ($2.75), they are more than online price $1.95 (BMW locking nuts)

It's not stamped on the OE bolts, but I'm pretty sure they're 10.9 or higher. I wouldn't use 8.8 bolts on a driveshaft flange.
Cheapest option is to remove OE bolts from an used car (scrapyard). Or buy new.
It doesn't list e36 in the description.Originally Posted by chimpanzee;30823222
