Determining if I have memory + heated mirrors, or just heated mirrors or ....

Car: 1988 735i 5spd, LSD, memory seats ( maybe mirrors too?), production date 1/88.

My passenger side mirror no longer works. The switch is good, connections are good, motors are good though are utterly decimated by time and barely move. I ordered the only mirror drive/motor listed for my car: 51161394107. RealOEM show 3 mirror options and they all use the same motor, I assumed, as only one motor is listed at all. My issue is that my car has a completely different setup in the mirror.

There are three possible mirrors listed for my car, however, realOEM shows all them using the same drive/motor, part: 51161394107 which is nothing like my mirrors.

Here is the new motor listed: 51161394107, and it is nothing like my setup. Where did I go wrong? Was there a complete change in internal mirror design at some point or ?

Further digging shows me that I believe I ordered the non-memory drive motor, and should have ordered the memory unit. And that it seems if you have memory seats, you have memory mirrors.

yes, if you have memory seats, you automatically have memory mirrors, because the mirrors are adjusted based on the sensors in the seat frame

you need a memory drive motor.

try to find a used memory mirror, maybe cheaper than a new drive motor only

I found a matching color mirror off the same year with memory for $60. I figured I would go that route first before throwing down a large investment to view my past.
