    E36 ABS ASC light

    Hello guys,

I have a question regarding ABS & ASC light. My car is 1997 323i equipped with ABS & ASC. It's a manual, right hand drive car.

The ABS module, wheel speed sensor have been replaced but the lights are still on. The scanner showed the front left selonoid is bad, but the pump was bench tested and all selonoids are working properly.

    Whatelse should I check?

Did you delete the error codes with a scanner after repair

yes I did and the error came back immediately

Have you tried to see if the wiring is good to the sensor? Yes, there is a threshold for a bad sensor, but at times it can be bad, but won't set a code.

There is what's called a "spin" test, where with the vehicle on a lift and the tyres off the ground, you can spin a tyre to see if the reading is making it back to the ABS module. Quite a few scanners have this test if it can talk to the ABS module.

FYI if you got a cheap ABS sensor, I have seen them fail right out of the box.

If the wheel sensor failed, will the scanner register it as wheel sensor failure? Because I scanned mine and it showed the left front selonoid that failed. Does it mean the pump that failed?

Not always. If you are still getting a solenoid failure, that tends to be the ABS module itself, which is attached to the pump.

Now when you say "Bench test" I am going to assume that each "Pump" was checked to see if they move freely? And how was the electrical test conducted?
