I have a 1995 BMW M3. It says prewired for alarm in the trunk. Will this be everything I need to get it working?
There is some difference between ODB1 and ODB2 alarms and E36 chassis's
The "prewired" harness is the same for all of the E36 cars but the ODB1 cars fitted with OBC would have a horn under the passengers headlight & side marker light. The alarm that was installed in the ODB1 cars (95s would have a 3 button remote alarm installed) had a DIP switch setting on the module for either horn or siren. This alarm should only be used with the siren once the horn is disconnected form the cars harness. The horn does have a shield on it which makes it harder to disconnect the harness, but an 8mm 1/4 drive swivel socket, long extension is needed. It has been 20+ years since I had to remove a shield from a horn to hook up a siren and removing the driving light to get the shield out should be all you need to disassemble, worst case the headlight.
Here is the factory wiring diagram(ETM) showing the horn/ siren wiring.
